Game SummaryThe name, "HEN'S SOCCER CLUB" will be engraved onto the F. Patrick Healey Cup, which is on display at DiPasquale's Italian Grocery in East Baltimore, as they were successful in capturing the 2001 Champions Soccer League title. The championship match was a battle of two talented sides in Hen's SC and Christos SC that lived up to everyone's expectations, as an exceptional game. Christos struck first as forward Lou Karko finished a deflected ball, following some confusion in front of the Hen's goalmouth. Hen's forward and MYP of the match, Kevin Henderson, then evened things up when he buried a shot from 10 yards out that beat the Christos keeper to the lower left of the goal. Both teams were battling in the second half and there seemed to be a feeling that whomever scored the 2nd goal for his team was going to seal the victory for his side. Late in the second half, Christos forward Luke Bell received a pass on the run 20 yards from the goal. With a defender draped all over him, Bell was able to hit an absolute perfect shot to the far post that found the side netting. With only minutes remaining in the match, it seemed Christos would come away victorious. But Hen's would not go away as they continued to get #s forward and attack. Hen's forward, "Soupie" received a "through" ball that split the defense and hit a shot from 20 yards out that beat the Christos keeper to his right. Regulation could not determine a champion, so free kicks from the penalty mark ensued. Hen's bettered the Christos shooters by one, with Greg Bassman finishing the shot that kept the title with Hen's SC. Down two times in the match, a solid team effort proved to be enough in the end as Hen's SC persevered to capture their second Champions Soccer League title in as many years.
