Allied took advantage of some defensive miscues in the James Joyce Irish Pub backfield and scored twice in the last 5 minutes of the first half. The pressure continued in the first 7 minutes of the second half, as Allied SC-Lagers Pub added 2 more to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Game SummaryAllied SC - Lagers Pub defeated the Baltimore Bays 5-3 in the Final of the 2003 Champions Soccer League under the lights at Eastern Regional Park in Chase, MD. The win secured the F Patrick Healey Cup for Allied SC for another year, as they successfully defended their 2002 title. Allied opened the scoring on two counter attack fast breaks that were converted by Pat Crawford and Scott Zakroski. Being down 2-0 did not rattle the young Bays side, as they responded with a goal by Shawn Bounds following an intercepted square pass in the Allied backfield. The game played even until Allied connected with their 3rd tally of the night following a scramble in front of the Bays goal that was tapped in by Bill Reinhardt, seconds before the halftime whistle. Early in the 2nd half, the Bays closed the gap to 3-2 and momentum started to move in their favor as they started to get the best of possession. Allied, however, continued to defend and counter and it payed off with their 4th score and Zakroski's 2nd of the night and appeared to seal the victory for their side. The Bays would not go away quietly and once again closed the margin to 1 following a 25 yard direct kick by Mike Dougherty that found the side netting after beating the Allied wall and keeper. The Bays pushed men forward in the remaining 5 minutes trying to get the equalizer and were very close to doing so had it not been for two brilliant saves by Allied keeper, Jason Rims. Allied added their 5th goal that caught the Bays keeper way off his line and enabled the Allied forward to beat him with a dribble and tuck it home neatly. The game ended 5-3 and gave Allied SC-Lagers Pub their 2nd title in as many years. Frank Assaro, CSL Coordinator, awarded the Finalist trophy to Brian Tully, captain of the Baltimore Bays. The 1st place trophy and F Patrick Healey Cup was awarded to Jason Rims, captain of Allied SC -Lagers Pub. The CSL Final MVP Award was presented to Scott Zakroski. In 20
